I was 16 having my 1st real job: cleaning offices in Amsterdam. A ‘leading’ cleaner gave me an induction training: do as little as you can. Hide from the team leader. My first week was lousy. Time didn’t pass and I felt I was cheating the manager.
The next week I decided to work as hard and as good as I could. The job became wonderful. I felt great, appreciated and satisfied. I got a salary raise and promoted.
The manager was happy, I was happy, but not all my colleagues. Some tried to sabotage me but in vain. Others followed my example and we created a great atmosphere.
