We love to make love with our candidates (and also with our clients and colleagues and suppliers:-)
We like to be great for them, to do whatever it takes to make them achieve what it is they want with their career.
BUT….
Unfortunately we reject more candidates than we place at our clients. Because there are always more applicants for one job. So we have to be very good in rejecting candidates. Because, no matter how you look at it, it never is nice to be rejected, even if you understand the job is not suited for you.
So what can you do for a rejected candidate to make him or her leave your meeting with a smile?
A lot.
And it doesn’t cost you much.
The BIG rule is: treat your candidates the way you like to be treated….
- Reject your candidate on spot, never delay and postpone.
- Give honest feedback, but don’t be rude
- Explain why the job was not suited for your candidate
- Give the candidate advice, tips & tricks for successful applications
- Discuss other vacancies and clients we are having
- Suggest training & courses & literature
- If you can’t do anything for the candidate, give him or her an overview of career sites and other agencies which might be able to help them
- Be grateful towards your candidate that he or she took the effort to work with you
- Stay in contact
It is not difficult to leave a great impression with your candidates if you treat them the way you would love to be treated. This way you create fans from your candidates….
