I recently had the pleasure of joining The Resilient Recruiter podcast for a conversation about something that has shaped my entire career: resilience in recruitment.

It was a thoughtful discussion about what really determines whether a recruitment company survives a crisis or grows through it. Having led Lugera through the 2008 financial crisis, COVID-19, and the war in Ukraine, I’ve seen firsthand how fragile a single-revenue model can be.

In the episode, I share why I believe growth in difficult markets is not about pushing harder, but about building differently. Over the years, we developed what I call an “all-seasons service portfolio” with eight revenue streams. That structure allowed us to stay stable when permanent hiring slowed and to adapt quickly when markets shifted.

We also explored how technology and automation transformed our operating model, why most agencies underutilise their candidate databases, and how rethinking systems can unlock both efficiency and profitability.
